Based on a simple ascending three-note motif, this big and bright overture is a worthy challenge for the very best concert bands. Musically descriptive of a Seattle suburb, the composer was inspired to write this work during his morning commute, with lots of jerky stops and starts. In addition, the view of the snow-covered Olympic Mountains infuses the overture with a breathtaking quality. For bands that are up to its musical challenges, this exciting new work could easily be the highlight of a musical season!
